LOT 34 - 1854 Seated Liberty Quarter Dollar Silver Coin
Description

Silver 1854 Seated Liberty Quarter Dollar designed by Christian Gobrecht. This authentic antique silver coin depicts Liberty seated on a rock, holding a liberty pole with a cap in her left hand and a shield in her right, surrounded by thirteen stars representing the original colonies. The reverse features an American eagle with shield, holding arrows and an olive branch, with "QUAR. DOL." denomination beneath.

This historic quarter was minted during a significant period in American history, just seven years before the Civil War and during the height of westward expansion. The Seated Liberty design, produced from 1838 to 1891, represents one of the longest-running coin designs in U.S. Mint history.

The coin displays the characteristic reeded edge and detailed strike of Philadelphia Mint quarters from this period. The rich patina developed over more than 165 years gives this coin its distinctive character and historical authenticity.

Condition Notes: Shows moderate to heavy circulation wear consistent with its age. Liberty's head and upper body details remain visible, though worn. Shield and drapery show expected wear. Some surface marks and edge wear present. No major damage, holes, or repairs noted. Even gray patina throughout. Refer to the pictures and in person inspection for condition.
