Silver 1926-D Standing Liberty Quarter designed by Hermon A. MacNeil. This scarce Denver Mint issue features Liberty standing between two pillars with "LIBERTY" across the top and stars on both sides. The date 1926 is clearly visible, with a small "D" mint mark indicating Denver Mint production. The reverse displays a majestic eagle in flight with outspread wings, surrounded by "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "QUARTER DOLLAR" inscriptions.
This quarter belongs to the Type 2 design (1925-1930) with the recessed date feature and modified shield, distinguishing it from earlier issues in the series. The Standing Liberty Quarter design, produced from 1916 to 1930, exemplifies the artistic renaissance in American coinage during the early 20th century and is considered one of the most beautiful U.S. coin designs.
This coin has developed an attractive deep patina over nearly a century, with natural dark toning enhancing the design elements. The Denver mint produced 1,716,000 quarters in 1926, making this a somewhat scarcer date in the series compared to Philadelphia issues from the same year.
