LOT 110 - Liberty Head "V" Nickel Collection - Antique
Description

Collection of thirteen Liberty Head "V" Nickels dating from 1883-1912, housed in a variety of protective holders. Notable dates include an 1883 No Cents variety, 1904, 1912-P, and scarce 1912-D. Coins are displayed in both cardboard holders with handwritten notations and round plastic capsules.

The Liberty Head or "V" Nickel was designed by Charles E. Barber and minted from 1883 to 1913. The design features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet, surrounded by stars, with the date below. The reverse displays a large Roman numeral V (five) surrounded by a wreath. The 1883 "No Cents" variety is particularly noteworthy as it lacks the word "CENTS" on the reverse, an oversight quickly corrected later that same year.

Each nickel is composed of 75% copper and 25% nickel with a weight of 5 grams and a diameter of 21.2mm. The collection spans nearly 30 years of American coinage history, including examples from both the Philadelphia and Denver mints, with the 1912-D being among the lower mintage issues in the series.

Condition notes: Coins display various levels of circulation wear consistent with their age, ranging from Good to Very Good condition as noted on some of the cardboard holders. The 1912-D specimen shows moderate wear but remains clearly identifiable. Some coins exhibit typical toning and patina. No major damage or alterations are evident. Previous owner price notations visible on some holders. Refer to the pictures and in-person inspection for condition.
