Natural cow horn with leather strap and wooden plug. This mid-19th century powder horn features hand-carved "US" marking on end cap and "Co. G" regimental designation with "REGULARS" inscription along the body. The curved natural horn displays classic teardrop shape with dark amber patina developed through military field use.

Research indicates this horn most likely belonged to a Regular Army soldier during the early-mid 19th century, with the War of 1812 period being particularly likely when U.S. Regulars used powder horns and proudly distinguished themselves from militia units. However, powder horns did see some continued (if limited) use in the Civil War, particularly early in the conflict or among Regular Army units that existed as a small core within the Union Army. These career soldiers took pride in being "Regulars" among the vast force of state volunteer regiments, and a Regular Army soldier in the Civil War might have marked his gear with his company and pride in being a Regular.
