LOT 245 - 1978 Canadian Silver Dollar - XI Commonwealth Games Edmonton Coin (Silver)
Description

This lot features pristine Canadian silver coins presented in their original Royal Canadian Mint display cases, including a commemorative 1978 silver dollar celebrating the XI Commonwealth Games in Edmonton and a Queen Elizabeth II silver dollar. Both coins display exceptional condition with proof-like finishes and original mint packaging.

This offering comprises two cased Canadian silver coins of exceptional numismatic quality:

The first coin (left case) is a Canadian silver dollar featuring Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The coin is housed in its original Royal Canadian Mint presentation case with red velvet interior and black leatherette exterior. The coin exhibits a brilliant uncirculated finish with strong luster.

The second coin (right case) is a 1978 Canadian silver dollar commemorative issue for the XI Commonwealth Games held in Edmonton. The obverse displays a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with "ELIZABETH II D G REGINA" inscription. The reverse features a distinctive star-shaped design with the text "XI GAMES XI JEUX COMMONWEALTH EDMONTON 1978" and symbolic motifs representing the Commonwealth nations. This coin is housed in its original Royal Canadian Mint presentation case with red velvet interior and black plastic insert marked "1972" (though the coin itself is from 1978).

Both coins are struck in .500 fine silver (50% silver content) with a weight of approximately 23.3 grams each. These are official Royal Canadian Mint issues that represent important pieces of Canadian numismatic history. The Commonwealth Games commemorative dollar specifically celebrates an important international sporting event hosted by Canada.

Condition Notes:

Both coins present in superb condition with brilliant, proof-like surfaces showing minimal handling. The silver exhibits excellent luster with no significant toning, spots, or blemishes visible. Both display cases are in excellent condition with minimal wear to the exterior leatherette and clean, intact velvet interiors. The plastic capsules protecting each coin are clear and unmarked. The Elizabeth II coin in the left case does not fit correctly in its presentation case, appearing to be slightly misaligned with the designated recessed area. The Commonwealth Games coin fits properly in its case. Refer to the pictures and in person inspection for condition.
