LOT 62A - Antique Pine Jelly Cupboard with Wooden Latch, c.1870
Description

Solid pine two-door storage cupboard with original wooden latch closure and turned wooden knobs. This simple, utilitarian American farmhouse piece features paneled doors with contrasting wood tones and straight, sturdy lines characteristic of late 19th century country furniture. The interior reveals three fixed shelves, making it ideal for kitchen storage or display.

Construction details include mortise and tenon joinery, simple panel-in-frame door construction, and hand-cut wood components. The cabinet features original hinges and a functional wooden slide latch. The warm honey-toned finish shows signs of age enhancement, with darker patina on the surrounding frame contrasting with lighter door panels.

Notable features include the primitive wooden sliding latch mechanism, simple round wooden drawer pulls, and minimalist joinery typical of rural American cabinetmaking. This practical piece would have served as storage for jellies, preserves, and other pantry items in a 19th century farmhouse.

Condition notes: Split in top board with visible crack extending several inches. Surface shows extensive wear consistent with age including scratches, scuffs, water rings, and edge wear throughout. Some minor wood shrinkage apparent at joints. Back boards show significant aging and patina. No major structural issues beyond top crack. All hardware appears original. Refer to the pictures and in-person inspection for condition.
